Linda Brannock's Raised Beds

Raised Beds is a Linda Brannock design from her 1996 book, Miss Jump's Quilt Album.

The background is a black wool and I used a variety of my older Brannock and Patek fabrics for the applique.  I'm using needle turn applique and I'm not as fast at this as I used to be so it's taking awhile.

The logs are randomly cut in different widths and added around the center geese.

I left a two inch border to add random half square triangles.  I was amazed that Linda worked her applique on the entire background wool as she went along. That means a 43" x 68" piece of wool!  I decided to break the quilt down into individual blocks for easier applique for me.

Keeping Linda Close...

Talk about being overwhelmed and emotional. An online friend sent me
two of Linda Brannock's original quilts as a Christmas gift.
I read the card, looked at the quilts, read the card,
looked at the quilts, taking a moment for it all to sink in and started crying.
I was holding two quilts that Linda made.
Yes, it did feel as though Linda was close.

Thank you...

I'm so very touched by your generosity and spirit.
You know how much this means to me knowing
that we both share a love for Linda and her work.

Six Cats in My Garden

The cold snowy blizzard like weather has allowed me to finish the hand quilting
on Linda Brannock's Six Cats in My Garden.

I need to sew the binding on yet.
I'm using the same border fabric for the binding.

I kept the hand quilting simple by using the big stitch and crochet cotton for my thread.

I hope Linda's family knows how much her designs
continue to inspire primitive quilters like me.

I came across an Ebay listing for this hard to find pattern,
Miss Jump's Cottage Garden by Linda Brannock, 1999
I really, really love this quilt design and the sentiment.

No affiliation...

The seller has the five blocks to make the quilt listed separately.
her ID is foxden12.

Pondering...

After sewing on the last red borders for Linda's Six Cats in My Garden,
 I've been pondering the quilting.

Still pondering after looking at it for days on my wall.

Six Cats...

Six Cats in My Garden...
I finished the top and really love
how the large flowers accent the quilt.

I will hand quilt it using a primitive stitch.

The pattern is in Linda's Miss Jumps Memories book from 1999.

Six Cats in My Garden

I've been stitching some on Linda Brannock's Six Cats in my Garden.
I'm using the needle turn applique method.
I'm auditioning the large flowers for color and placement.
I'll add those after the very large stems and leaves are appliqued.

I'm very partial to these older designs, large applique with large cuts of fabric.
I'm using my stash of older Brannock and Patek fabrics.

These two fabrics in the background are for the stems, leaves and one more border.

It hard for me to believe that Linda is gone.
So I stitch these older designs that are such a legacy of her immense talent.

Remembering Linda Brannock

The Collector Series...

I was saddened to learn that Linda Brannock passed away yesterday.
She had such incredible talent for designing primitive quilts.
Her primitives designs and fabrics inspired me
to become the primitive quilter I am today.
I will always have a special place in my heart for her.
My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

Six Cats in My Garden

I've been thinking about Linda Brannock and wishing her well and continued good health after a recent hospital stay.  Looking back through some of her books, I decided I wanted to make her Six Cats in My Garden.  A quilt I can relate to considering all the cats that I have had over the years.  I think eight cats were the most that Jim and I had at one time.

The quilt is from Miss Jump's Memories.

The applique pieces are large, almost 26" across so the applique is easy and simple to accomplish.  I'm using the needle turn applique method and lots of older Brannock and Patek fabrics.

Flowers

My friend Patty sent me this picture of her finished quilt, Flowers by Linda Brannock.  Stunning quilt and a fabulous design.  Patty does beautiful work.  Patty is a generous lady who sent me so many BOM's and fabric that continue to keep me busy.

In case you want to see what the original design looks like.

A Critter, Got Snow and Looking for a Pattern

That better not be bird seed on your nose.
Finally, snow, just what was needed for the wildfires.
An internet friend is looking for the pattern for that pumpkin quilt you see on the back of the couch.  The pattern is by Linda Brannock and was from the 90's, she needs help in finding it.

Hmmmmmm

As in pondering a quilt design for this great plaid I found in my stash.
Love this book from Linda, but then there's not a book of hers that I don't love.  Think I'm only missing one or two from her Miss Jump's line of books.
Always great pictures of the quilts in her books, love this very primitive log cabin.  Especially like the look of black for the background.  I seem to gravitate to black for a background.
Snowed all day yesterday, mixed with rain and then woke up to green grass covered with snow in the back yard, starting to melt.

Should be able to see a mountain behind the house, a white out of sorts.

Primitive Primer and a Collector Series Block

Here's the other lap quilt that I made from Primitive Primer.  It's when I really started too use dark colors, especially black fabrics in my quilts after studying so many of the older Brannock & Patek patterns and quilts.
The log cabin block is finished from the Collector Series.  Very fast block since the cabin is made up of strips and then appliqued.

Resting today after working outside yesterday, lot of property to take care of, but I'm pretty sure someone came during the night and beat my right knee with a baseball bat.

Primitive Circles and Stars, Completed

Great weather, cool, so a nice day to sit outside and sew the binding on my quilt.  Did chose multiple orange, red and brown plaids for the binding. I think I like it.  I enjoy the inspiration from the older patterns of Brannock & Patek. This block is based on one from The Collector Series, with a little less applique, just the basic circle and star.

Primitive Circles and Stars

I've had this top made for some time now, inspired from one of the blocks from The Collector Series by Jan Patek and Linda Brannock, needle turn applique on all the stars and circles.  Used lots of my old Brannock & Patek fabrics. Decided to pin baste it today, actually had some black batting for a change, and now to quilt it.  Just feel like hand quilting it.  That might change by the time I pick up the needle.

Thinking, thinking, and thinking some more that I better start selling some quilts,  will let you know if I am still thinking.  When I do, it will be from my blog, or Ebay.  Hard to know right now with the economy which is best, been awhile since I sold on Ebay.  Just thinking.

Cross Quilt

Started on the Cross quilt, I cut the the crosses out first from Jim's shirts and am appliqueing them instead of sewing them to strips as Linda did. Then I'm adding the strips to the center cross. Linda's is a wallhanging size, going to make mine just a little larger and then see what I have left of the shirts.
