My Progress...Harriet Power's Pictorial Quilt

The original Pictorial Quilt, courtesy of
The Boston Museum of Fine Arts

I finished the third block.
This block depicts the serpent lifted up by Moses
and women bringing their children to look upon it to be healed.

Stitching on the fourth block which has much more applique.
This block depicts Adam and Eve in the garden.
Adam's rib by which Eve was made.
The sun and the moon.
God's all seeing eye and
God's merciful hand.

The Pattern Book from the Museum of Fine Arts that
I'm using to make the quilt.

I plan to buy this book. It documents the history of Harriet
and her Bible Quilt along with her Pictorial Quilt.
I was surprised to learn that Harriet stitched her applique down with
a sewing machine.

For Sale

A friend of mine is selling some of her primitive patterns and kits on Ebay.
One of my favorites, The Bible Quilt by Jan Patek from 1998 is listed and it's for the entire kit.
Another primitive quilt kit from Jan Patek.  I love those fabrics.
Her ID on Ebay is wilamenaowl.

Bible and Story Quilts by Harriet Powers

Thanks to Kathie from Inspired by Antique Quilts, I bought this little book last year because I was overwhelmed after seeing the two quilts that Harriet Powers made back in the late 1880's depicting scenes from the bible and her own life stories. Lots of information in this little book about Harriet Powers and the stories behind her images. So after receiving lots of lots of photos from Kathie that she had taken at a museum of the Pictorial quilt a few weeks ago, which is the one on the cover, I have put it on my mission of quilts to produce.  The second picture is the Bible quilt.
I went to the big city yesterday for a doc appointment, went very well, and while there, was able to buy the background fabric for which ever quilt I decide to make, it's Roclon muslin, a fabric Cherie told me about, good quality muslin and a great price.  Drying it now and it feels aged, that's a good thing, will use it also to back Jim's Cross quilt so I can finish it.  I have three more cross quilts to make for his family.  I can tell when I talk to them that they would like to have something made from one of his shirts.

Bible Quilt

Silly me, I've never made a Noah quilt, I made the Bible Quilt that you see here. No wonder I want to make a Noah quilt. A pic of the Bible quilt on the ceiling where it hangs now and on the carpet with Mickey at the very edge back in 2005 when I made it. Another awesome Noah quilt, this is from Jan Patek's new book, Country Quilts for Your Soul and this is it hanging at the quilt show in Nantes where she is at the moment.

It was bound to happen,

dropped my digital camera in the snow so until I can buy a new one, good thing it was only a point and shoot and bought it with points, I can't post anything new, would like to show my Irish purse, can't believe I came up with a design, just think green, lots and lots of green. Anyway, I posted one of my favorite Jan Patek quilts, the Bible quilt, I made it in 2005 I think, very prim, Jan's remaking it this year as a Mystery quilt, the mystery is the fabric she's using, and that's Mickey, our now deceased Siamese cat who lived to be 18 years old, came up here with us from Texas.
