Hello winter...

May they pass safely through

the day and night together...

A handsome Buck, knee deep in the snow.

 

 

The Doe...her twins in the next few photos are the ones

that were hunkered down under a tree during the last snow storm.

She's a beautiful Doe who looks very pregnant.

 

And a little wild rabbit watching it all.

A View From My Window...

 

Most of these photos are taken from inside the house so

the quality is not as sharp and bright,

but it gives me a chance to

share the wildlife right outside my window.

One of my best captures ever, heart pounding to look outside

my kitchen window and see this Mountain Lion.

Gorgeous creature as it made it's way across the deep, deep snow.

You can't imagine how big they are,

males can weigh as much as 220 pounds and the females

can weigh as much as 140 pounds.

 

A pair of young Mule Deer...

 

Hunkered down during a blizzard a week or so ago.

 

Amazing how they have the instincts already on how to survive.

 

A clearer photo because this Mule Deer climbed the deck

and was staring at me through the front door window.

 

Mule Deer after yet another snow storm came through...

bitter temperatures.

 

I watched as they ran up the hill

as if they were frightened by a predator.

 

Yes little one it's snow and it does this every year.

 

Looking from my kitchen window...

hard to see but there are Elk laying under the trees

and at the top of the hill.

My backyard covered in several feet of snow.

 

I am reminded of this poem as I watch

 these creatures face such bitter conditions looking for food and comfort...

 

"I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself.

A small bird will drop frozen dead from

 a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself."

Mule Deer

 

 

They are so dang cute with those big ears.  I have had a small herd for several weeks now grazing on the property and just lounging in the sun. 

 

I have no idea what those marks are on her face.

 

Nice to see them healthy after the harsh winter.  I noticed this doe is pregnant as are a few others in the herd. I hope to get some pictures of the fawns if they stay close by.

Wildlife Today



A warming trend to 10 degrees allowed me get outside today to take pictures of the wildlife.  How could I not venture out and take pictures of these beautiful creatures.  I am very close to the house.  I know, stay safe.
