Quilt Challenge

Cheri Payne tagged me on Facebook to participate in an Art Challenge, showing three quilts for five days that I have made.  These are the three that I chose today.  Feathered Star by Jan Patek.  This quilt is quite worn since I sleep under it every night.

Winter Spirit by Jan Patek.

The Pokeberry Quilt by Jan Patek.  I bought this one as a kit on Ebay and the lady I bought it from had some of the blocks already stitched.  Her applique work was flawless.

The Pokeberry Quilt

Finally finished hand quilting The Pokeberry Quilt.

I love the primitive design and the vintage fabrics from Brannock and Patek.  It's my winter quilt, heavy and warm to sleep under.

Hand Quilting

It's a cool and rainy day so I'm watching college football while I hand quilt The Pokeberry Quilt.

I'm using the big stitch or utility stitch with a black DMC crewel thread.

One More Time, The Pokeberry Quilt

I finished sewing the borders on the other day.  That older Brannock and Patek black striped fabric is perfect for the border.  I wish I could find more of it for another quilt I'm working on.

This was a kit that I bought on Ebay last fall.  I wanted something that I could work on easily while recuperating after the breaking the leg incident.  It's from Jan's Girl Gang group from 2002.  The seller taught the class and had many of the blocks completed and the vintage fabrics sorted so the stitching went fast.  I will quilt it by hand using the big stitch.

A beautiful day, not too cold, still some snow in the background and at the higher elevations and wonderful green grasses for the wildlife.

Progress on the Pokeberry Quilt

I have all the sections stitched together and now I only need to add the borders.  I appliqued all the pokeberries as I went along so I wouldn't get tired of just sewing circles.  I love how it's turning out.  It's been either raining or snowing all morning so glad the weather broke to get a picture of it outside.  I actually woke up with a jolt this morning and thought it was thunder, could have been the 4.8 earthquake in Yellowstone this morning.  The epicenter was about 25 miles away from where I live.

The Pokeberry was originally a Girl Gang Project from 2002 - 2003, but you can buy the book on Jan's website.  Cherie Ralston also contributed several designs in the quilt.

This and That

My progress on the Pokeberry Quilt.

Yep, lots of snow like the rest of the country.  The temperature was 30 below zero two days ago, warm now at 20 degrees, seriously, it feels warm.

A view from the kitchen window, not great having to shot through the glass but the little deer looks so small next to the elk.  Looking at the elk's belly, she looks very pregnant.

I know, it's getting tough out there for you.

The Pokeberry Quilt

I've been wanting to make this quilt for years, watching Ebay or Etsy for a chance to buy the kit with the original fabrics are at least fabrics that reflect the look of the original design.  Found it on Ebay a few weeks ago.

The original design was a Girl Gang project from 2002-2003.  The seller taught the class so she had some of the blocks finished in this kit.

I should be able the sew one section this weekend together which would include the two top blocks on the left and the sashing so I can hand applique the Pokeberry stems and circles to that section.

If you subscribed to the Girl Gang, I did for several years, you received these extra projects like this notebook cover.

Thanks for all the comments on my wildlife pictures, quiet this week with little snow, but blowing winds and cold so I've only had some deer and my rabbit.
