Pronghorns...

Fastest land mammal in North America up to 60 miler per hour.

They have a few fawns nearby,
but I haven't been able to get a photo of them.

They have such beautiful markings...
notice the black markings inside her ears.

A male, still trying to shed his winter coat.

Two females who are still shedding their winter coasts, also.

Yay!

I still need to sew those three blocks to the rest of the quilt, but dang if I didn't get it done.  I changed the applique on the last block after going back and forth about adding my initials and the date.  I'm pondering my plan on where to lay out the borders for measuring and placement before I get started on the first one.

A female Pronghorn behind the house.  She was with a small herd, about four fawns, but one of the fawns was limping so I didn't want to scare them with the click of my camera.

The Family

A real surprise to see the family of Pronghorns coming up to the house as I was getting home the other day.

I'm sitting still in the car, engine off, music off, as I wait for them to decided where they want to go.

What are you all looking at?

It's your handsome Paw.  I'm only assuming, of course.

Mom, where are you going?

Mom, wait!

I was sitting outside on the deck last evening, sewing, when I look up and here they all come up from the lower meadow, the little ones running with their crazy legs flying.  Running back down to the meadow, back up to the house, of course, I don't dare breath for fear of frightening them.  One of the females even came up the house to drink from one of the saucers that I put out for the birds.  She saw me, never took her eyes off me, but she drank and then joined the family.

A Pronghorn with Twin Fawns

A view from my window, looking down to the lower meadow.  A first for me, have never seen Pronghorn fawns much less twins here on the property.  Too sweet for words.

The pictures seem hazy since I'm having to shoot thru the glass and screen, didn't want to scare them by going outside.

Look at those long, skinny legs, made for running.

Eating dirt, not really, well maybe, but rather the minerals that are in the soil.

A View from my Window

A Pronghorn, such a beautiful animal, fastest land mammal in North America.

Such a thrill to see them grazing in the lower meadow.

They see something.

Just the Bighorns, making their way over the hill.
Such an exotic looking animal.  Wish I had those eyelashes.

Back to grazing after realizing the sheep were not a threat.
Marmots, wet from a rain, but on alert for some reason.

Or maybe just looking around.
This little one is still working on shedding that winter coat.

Keeper of the Wildife

What my neighbor calls me since I keep up with all the wildlife around here.  Finally able to see why the pronghorns have been hanging around.  A first time experience for me to see fawns.

As I came home and driving down the hill onto the property, I was able to see a female pronghorn with twin fawns.  I had seen another female earlier with one fawn, but they were so fast I was not able to catch a picture of them.

A Purse and Wildlife

About the only sewing I was able to accomplish the last few days.  The wildlife and chores are distracting me.  Made this easy little prim purse for a friend, a basic Maggie B pattern except I quilted the fabric since I wasn't going to add any applique.

A baby marmot along the drive, I was taking a walk after dinner and caught him by surprise.  Were was Mom to warn him, he raised his head to see what was going on.

Must not have liked what was happening, he dropped down in this hole under a rock.  Can you see him in the center of the pic,  he still has a piece of grass in his mouth, next time I bet he's stays on alert or closer to mom.

Another surprise, for me, that is, the pronghorn so close to the house.  This is a male with the dark horns, females only have nubs, such an exotic animal.

He made a circle around the house, just in time to scare the female elk who finally decided to come down from the hill to graze.  I've been keeping an eye out for her since I saw a mountain lion coming down from the same area the other night.  The cats and I were glued to the screen, watching the lion as it slowly walked the edge of the rocks at the base of the mountain.

A female pronghorn that was following the male, they ended up with the rest of the herd down in the lower meadow.

Ode to Sue Spargo and a Pronghorn

It was been cool enough in the evening for me to finished stitching the applique on my wool wallhanging, Ode to Sue Spargo.  I need to decide on the embellishment.  I like the simplicity of the piece.

A real surprise outside my window today, a pronghorn.

The fastest land animal in North America.

Leaving the property as I was able to snap one last
picture of it in the lower meadow.
