Two Golden-mantled Ground Squirrels have
emerged from their six month hibernation.
Look at that sweet expressive face...
This one is young...
And very small compared to the next one in the photo.
A larger male who was able to make it through
his long hibernation.
I'm afraid the others didn't make it.
So beautiful and precious. Sorry that some of them did not turn up again. I have the same with the rabbits in our area... there was a lovely large black and white one (obviously escaped from his cage somewhere) that managed to survive a few winters but did not reappear after last winter... I still miss him.
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet, sweet pictures! It was such a harsh winter for these little guys. We've had a Great Horned Owl move into one of our pine trees and he's cleared our area of our ground squirrels, rabbits, quail, etc. I won't let my cats out unless I'm with them and only about a foot away. Love your pictures!!
ReplyDeleteSuch precious little sweeties!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that some perished during hibernation. It was a long and brutal winter, even here in Northern California...
