Calliope Hummingbirds

I've had these little jewels the last week or so visiting what few flowers I have left.

Female Calliope Hummingbird

Smallest of the US hummingbirds

Only 2 3/4 inches long, most other hummingbirds are more than 3 inches to almost 4 inches long.

Tiny little feathers rim her eye.

It was several hours of perseverance and sitting oh so still to take these photos.  I was very pleased since I've never been able to get so many close-ups.

  1. Your patience sure paid off! She is beautiful. My aunt used to call hummingbirds "thread toes" since their little feet are oh so tiny! Great photos

  3. Those are fabulous shots, really love the closeups. I have one that visits and it flew right up to my face and hovered in front of me, wish I had a camera then.

  11. Amazing pixs. We have four hummingbirds at our feeders this year. Really difficult to get good pics...you did great! We sit outside during " happy hour" and watch the "hummingbird wars", they really don't share well but they are great entertainment!
