A Cross Quilt and the Sheep

A cross quilt that I had started last week, the top is stitched and will have to wait for a suitable backing fabric since I don't have on hand what I want.  This was the quilt I was working on when the sheep distracted me.
She is gorgeous, notice her pupil.  The big horns have horizontally elongated oval pupils that increases their peripheral vision to spot predators.
Beautiful Ram with almost a full curl, takes seven to eight years for the horns to reach a full curl.
The biologists have been down the road observing them and luring a few in to an area where they can net them and take blood and swab their noises for research, these will be collared so they can be monitored.  The sheep are very susceptible to pneumonia and from what the biologist told me yesterday, they want to learn more on why some herds die off,  why some seem to get sick yet are able to withstand the pneumonia.  As I left the property this morning, they were filming their work and gave me a thumbs up that all went well.

Your quilt is beautiful and so are the sheep. We were lucky to spot a small herd of them one year when we went to Joshua Tree here in California. A ranger told us there are a couple of groups of them that live there in the hills. They are beautiful animals.

  4. I like how you pieced the fabrics, gives it a design within a design with the bars making another cross. And always enjoy seeing your wildlife photos, glad you got a zoom, so we can see more of them.

  6. Hi Nancy,
That is a wonderful quilt. I love the crosses within the crosses and the blue is a great colour.
How interesting to talk to the biologists and learn about the sheep. The ram looks very regal with his horns.

  9. I love checking in on you and seeing what you have found around your place. The pictures of the wildlife are just beautiful. I looked out of my window this morning and there were kangaroos in the paddock next door and this evening 2 wedgetail eagles in the air. Different wildlife, same appreciation.
