Feeding him!
A Turkey Vulture perched on one of my feeding stations for the birds.
I'm in awe on how seriously big they are closeup. A six foot wing span. They are about two and a half feet tall and what's shocking is that they only weigh five pounds. You usually see them on the side of the road eating carrion. What a sight to see him closeup.
an amazing looking bird - thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhen my daughter was very young she tried VERY hard to convince the parents to look at the big birds with red heads out in the field. We finally did look.
ReplyDeletethey are amazing birds! not only in size but what they do to help clean up...
ReplyDeleteIt is an amazing looking bird. When I was in Iowa, we went to a sanctuary for birds and it was wonderful to see them closeup but it was sad to see them in cages. They said they wouldn't survive in the wild. Nice to see your bird out in the world.
ReplyDeleteI think these are such ugly birds but I know the good they do for the environment. We were surprised a few years ago to see several along a small-town street, stopping to eat some animal that had been killed by a car. I think this one in Montana is bigger than Ohio's turkey vultures.
ReplyDeleteUGH! They are so ugly (and that is affirmed everytime I encounter them by the side of the road--LOL).
ReplyDeleteWe saw some on a road over the mtns from northern inland CA on our way to the coast, they are the clean up crew after a vehicle hits an animal. They do a good job at this important job.
ReplyDeleteWow, great close-up photos! These birds constantly circle above our cabin here in the Adirondacks.
