The Pokeberry Quilt

I was born on October 8, 1950, but

this isn't about me, it's about my Mother who passed away almost 6 years ago, right before Christmas, she was 80. She lived back in Texas in a assisted living home, she hated it, wanted to be back in her own home and was always calling me to ask why she couldn't be home and have her car and her cats. She had named all her cats after her children, I of course was named after the most rowdy one. She drove until it scared all of us to death that she would and could be behind the wheel of a car. I made this quilt for her for Christmas, this is a duplicate of the original. Jim, my husband, was flying to Florida to see his family fo the holiday and was stopping in Texas to see her and give her the quilt. She had a stroke the day before he arrived. He brought the quilt to the hospital and the nurses kept it on her bed until she died. It was displayed at her funeral and we buried it with her. The duplicate hangs on the wall in my bedroom. There are pictures of her when she was young with my Dad, posing in a bathing suit that she would be embarrassed that anyone saw her in now, but I love it. She have birth to her only daughter 56 years ago tomorrow.

  5. Hi Nancy in Montana, I was wondering about that comment til I clicked over here and it's you...*VBS*
WHat a delight to share birthdays!! I've never had a birthday twin til now, and gosh, exactly 10 years apart...that is so cool!
It delights me because that means you got "in" on so much of the good stuff, before the 60's and 70's hit us!
Your blog is delightful, and I really enjoy reading what you write. You mom sounds like a very interesting woman...and I love the duplicate quilt. Having her christmas quilt go with her is such a neat idea. We buried my Dad in 1990 in his beloved bib overalls and a new christmas flannel shirt. The undertaker was a bit shocked, but hey, lets keep it real. It absolutely delighted his Dr. that we had the courage to do that..*VBS*

Your prim quilts are just great, and I ilke the way you pick names and titles.
Can't say I'd be fond of those rattlers tho..yikes!
Please do stop back at my place, and I'll keep coming back to see what you are up to..*VBS*

A very happy 56th birthday to a special lady. Hugs, Finn

  8. Oh Nancy! What a beautiful quilt for your mom, and what a sad story. Although I did love the part of the rowdy cat being named after you! And how wonderful that she got to take her quilt with her!
