Prim Friends

Debbie, aka Woolen Sails organizes a secret Christmas swap every year on our Yahoo prim sewing group.  I was thrilled to receive my gifts from Karen of Log Cabin Quilter.  We were to make a prim pocket, an ornament, pass on one or two patterns that we no longer use, a fat quarter of fabric. I got lots more than that.
Instead of an ornament, Karen made this angel, note the face and halo. The angel wings are of fabric printed with sheet music that Karen did herself.  It's a large angel, more than 12" long.  I have a great place for her in the living room.
A closeup of the pouch, love the wool applique of course and the red embroidery trees are perfect.

In case you didn't know it already since lots of us follow her blog,  Karen does beautiful work.

Christmas BOM and a Little Critter

Nice to finally have the sashing sewed to my Christmas BOM, now to quilt it.
You can tell I don't splurge on bird feeders.
And you see why.

The Spirit of Christmas

I finished the last block, the one you see below, for the Christmas BOM for my Yahoo sewing group.
Now to add the sashing and borders, the red wool that I've shown before.
Once again, the blocks were based on line drawings from Primitive Blessings by Twigs n Sprigs.
Lots of free primitive patterns for all seasons and themes.

Christmas in August and Losses

The Christmas BOM from my Yahoo sewing group, have one more block to go since I'm only making nine blocks.
As I posted before the blocks are based on line drawings from Primitive Blessings Twigs n Sprigs, all free on her website.  Debbie and I take turns choosing the drawings for each month and then we are on our own.  Debbie does stitchery, I do wool, some of the other ladies use a combination of both.

I wish I could show you pictures, but there is a copyright issue, a large fire now burning in our beautiful valley since Tuesday, just south of Livingston which would be about 35 miles away from me, they haven't been able to get a handle on it yet able to save homes, a business, school and church which is amazing considering how many fires are burning here in Montana, the park and other western states.  You wonder how they can keep this up, but they do, establishing fire lines where they can.  This is beautiful land, mountains, forest, homes as well as ranches, raising horses and cattle.  One home lost and I know the lady, she is a quilter, a widow who lost her husband a year before Jim died.  She was only able to get out with her cat and some pictures of her late husband.  I remember her stopping by the clinic to show me a memory quilt she had made of her husband's shirts and stuffed animals from the shirts for her grandkids.  I don't know how she can stand that much loss.

Merry Christmas

I read that 77% of adults believe in angels.  I love that people believe.  Do you?  I do.

A Wool Snowman Mat and Vintage Wool Ornaments

Stitching on this wool table mat today, making it up as I go along.  I cut the backing so the tongues are already attached as you can see.  Then I can stitch the gold wool backing I have to the entire piece. Not as difficult as stitching each tongue to the mat. The snowman still needs a scarf and need to add another tree and a little something hanging from the bird's beak.  Need to add applique to the tongues, also.  Another day of stitching for all that.
And then a close up of the vintage wool ornaments, not mittens as I said in another post.  Just wool circles with vintage lace stitched to the wool and a vintage button added for additional embellishment.

More Christmas Wool Mittens

Stitched a few more wool Christmas ornaments.  The dark one is all purple, looks better in person, there is a variation in the purple wools and I love the pink one, pink is for a lady.

Christmas Wool Mitten Ornaments

Just a pic of a few of the Christmas wool ornaments I have made so far.  Nice way to use small pieces of wool for the appliques.  I have some round designs to start with wool, old lace and vintage buttons.  Should be fun, been wondering what I was going to do with the lace.  Will see if what I see in my head can be transfered to an ornament.
