After several attempts to start this BOM from Jan Patek and Alma Allen, the first block is done. I decided I needed an applique project for my hands while I bounce back and forth from the sewing machine to hand quilting. I'm using the needle turn applique method.
The blocks are large, as in 20" square large. I'm using Brannock and Patek fabrics that I have been collecting over the years just for this quilt.
A closeup of the first two blocks.
Those are really beautiful and i like your choice of background fabrics.

Oh, thank you for posting this! I'd begun this quilt years ago and just went looking for the patterns and the blocks I'd finished. I found I'd completed three of them! I also found the background fabrics I'd planned to use. Now to go find more fabrics and start appliqueing again.
ReplyDeleteYour idea of having something to quilt, something to machine piece, and something to hand applique is very appealing. Thanks again!
I love your blocks Nancy. The color of the background are beautiful.

I made this quilt years ago Nancy and had so much fun with it. The large pieces are so easy to applique, it goes quickly.
ReplyDeleteOh how I love this quilt...my sister has the one Mom made and I have the patterns...best I'll do is hook a few of the blocks if I'm lucky...looking forward to seeing your progress...the orange backgrounds make all the other fabrics sing!
ReplyDeleteThis will be so great, I love the house block! 20" wow!
ReplyDeleteEvening Nancy, very nice blocks, it will be another beautiful quilt, Francine.
ReplyDeletemore lovely inspiration! I found a couple of applique projects langushing in my sewing room as I have been tidying up this spring break - must bring them down to the TV room so I can actually work on them

ReplyDeleteHave a good day nancy.
Both blocks are wonderful. I love the colours.
ReplyDeleteI recognize most of those fabrics. Good to see that you have started the quilt. I still just have the pattern set and no plans.
ReplyDeleteI love the house block!
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be lovely! I adore your first two blocks.
ReplyDeleteAre you going to do the beautiful border? I think I bought this as a kit each month and have the blocks done, but not the border. Just haven't decided about the border and haven't looked at the quilt in a long while...you can be my inspiration to finish!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful block! I thought I recognized Alma's style before I read.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are lovely.
ReplyDeleteThe colors you have chosen have come together beautifully.
