Primitive Circles and Stars, Hand Quilting Progress

I'm glad to be making progress on the hand quilting of this quilt.  Like the big stitch with the black crochet thread.  Goes very fast and is very forgiving since I don't use a hoop to hand quilt.  I stopped using a hoop years ago when I started making prim quilts, not too worried about that perfect stitch and that taunt feel of the quilt.  Once it's washed, the quilt will do it's own thing.
So I guess I'm a lap quilter, just lay the quilt on my lap, hope the pins hold in place enough, not too tight and quilt.  I do machine quilt, but just seems if you're going to hand applique something that you want to really, really, look prim, you ought to hand quilt. Off course, I've done both, but now when I go back at look at my quilts, I like the ones that I did all by hand and that is the majority of them.

Up close you can lots of vintage Brannock and Patek fabrics.  Looking forward to getting Jan's freebie Friday that she had, some strips and tiny cuts of all the fabric from their latest line, Together, suppose to be more like their older fabrics, hope so. Then I can stop hanging out on Ebay, hoping to score an OOP fabric of theirs that I don't have.

  1. I find it easier to hand quilt, I can control things better, but takes so long. For regular quilts I use the machine, but I do like the big stitches on hand quilting the prim pieces. Need to my pieces sewed down and embellished so I can quilt my ark.

  3. I like the idea of your quilting with black crochet thread. I think I will need to give that a try on my next primitive piece.

  4. I'm a lap quilter, too. It's so much easier to move around the quilt not to mention holding it without that rigid hoop.
Can't wait to get my hands on the new B&P fabric line. I have not purchased fabric for some time (embarrassing amounts of stash) but B&P is in a class by itself in my book - a girl can never have too much *s*
