PATRICK SWAYZE

I was very sad last night to hear of Patrick Swayze's death on Monday evening. Who hasn't heard of him from the film "Dirty Dancing", from the late 80"s, my so called coming of age years, must have watched that film a dozen times. He came across in real life as a kind, gentle man, married to the same women for 30 years and grew up in Texas, the son of a cowboy and a ballet instructor, what a mix. An outstanding horse trainer as well.

I had just dropped Jim off in Livingston for an over night sleep study test after taking an hour to get him to get in the truck and go thru with the test, convince him to find out what's wrong, take the next step and go on, so it was late when I got home and heard the news. I cried, for Patrick Swayze, for Jim and even for me.

I picked Jim up early this morning after his test, it didn't go well, yet another doctor to see in two days. Jim was devastated, I wish for him to see the big picture, that he can be treated, but I see this as a nurse not as the patient. I know he's tired. He apologized to me for what he has put me thru, I think I stood in the shower for 30 minutes so he wouldn't hear me crying.

They are both the same age, Patrick and Jim, I saw an interview with Patrick Swayze this evening before his death and he said something so deeply moving, from the movie "Ghost", a real tear jerker, ........."the only thing you can take with you is the love you have."

This has been a sad day, tomorrow will be better.

You are going through so much, it is amazing where we get some relfection on our own situations.
I wish Jim well on his tests, answers would be a real comfort to you both.

  2. It's so hard to know what to say. I know Jim has been through so much. You, too, and I'm so glad you're a nurse and can understand what he's going through. Hope you're able to do a bit of stitching and hope you're able to enjoy the last days of summer.
