The Big Prim Basket with Stars

I decided to add big stars to the quilt and another triangle at the bottom for balance.  I just started to applique the stars tonight.  By the time I add the borders it should turn out to be a nice size lap quilt, about 40 x 30.
If you look very close to the center of this pic, you can see a female elk or cow as they are called.  About as close as I can get to her without scaring her.
She's left the herd to give birth to her baby or calf, maybe twins since she looks very pregnant.  She's been staying in the lower meadow and laying at the top of the hill that is beside the house.  I would have never seen her, but the other night I could hear the sound of the Sidney running from door to door, window to window, the pitter patter of those paws on the floor at a quick speed.  Bailey and I sat on the bed, me thinking, should I get up and go see what she sees.  Bailey thinking, way to comfortable to get up.  I finally got up and got a quick glimpse of her and then the pics when I went outside for a walk along the drive.

  1. Such neat points on your stars Nancy, do you have daylight in the evening, It's light here now until nearly 9.30, our longest day is at the end of June.
That Mama elk is so well hidden in the grass so I hope her babies are safe.

  3. Nancy,
I have followed your blog for quite some time now but have never told you how much I enjoy seeing your quilts and the pictures of Montana. I have never been there but have always wanted to. It is amazing to be able to be that close to wildlife. No elk here but we have deer, black bears, wild turkeys and lots of others that come close enough to see.

  4. Stars were a great touch and works for a summer piece and throughout the year.
It would be neat if she gives birth and you happen to have your camera ready;)

  5. The star works well. I think prim style quilts and stars go hand in hand.
