A Finish, A Start and A Treasure Chest

A finish!
A start of the August block from Sue's Imperial Blooms from 2011.
And I should never have looked to see what was stored in that cedar chest or so I thought.  Lots of lost treasures.  Lots of clothes that my mind said, why am I saving these.  Many memories from the past.  I'm glad I decided to open the chest.

ALPT Quilted, A Peek and Sidney

I finished the handquilting on the A Little Porch Time block that I turned into a lap quilt using the big stitch and black crochet cotton thread.
A peek at the start of a primitive quilt I'm stitching, using my favorite method of applique, needle turn,  hopefully a submission.  Surprise, surprise, the last quilt I submitted was accepted.
Sidney, gazing out the window, not with a curious gaze either.  She does this often lately.  Sometimes I think that she is still waiting for Jim to come home.

The Geese are Appliqued

I appliqued the geese to the borders, see one isn't flying quite right, oh well, prim.  Think I will use black crochet cotton and the big stitch to hand quilt it.
The rams in the lower meadow soaking up the sun, probably glad not to be laying in snow, but I'm starting to worry about the lack of moisture.

A Little Porch Time Wallhanging

My unfinished block from Lynda Hall's A Little Porch Time, wool applique on a brushed cotton background.  I decided I would finish it by making it into a wallhanging.  Remove the blue star.  Add a black moon and different stars.
Sewed some borders.  Tried not to wince as I cut the last border, a vintage Brannock and Patek fabric that I have had for years.  Needs a spot of color.
Audition some flying geese in the border, might need to
change that last "goose" in the right hand corner.
                                                Doesn't suit me.

ALPT Top Finished

The top is finished by adding the black border.  I will machine quilt it.  My fingers are screaming from too much hand work.

A Little Porch Time Lap Quilt

I was planning on stitching Lynda Hall's A Little Porch Time BOM, don't see it happening.  I have two blocks finished and they are each large, 18" square, so I decided that I would add some strips and a large border and make each one a lap quilt.  Here is the progress on the first one and what the block looked like before I started.  I appliqued wool to stitch the center instead of sewing it.   I just found a black with red stripes in my stash to add as the border and that should make it a nice size.

Prim Quilt from the past, present and some painting

My Prim String quilt from the past.  I don't remember when I made it, many years ago, but an online friend said it looks like fabric stacked on a shelf.  Lots of Brannock and Patek fabrics.  It's hanging on the ceiling in the dining room.
Another Cross quilt for a sister-in-law.  Love the dark muslin I found for the background.
Painting a little trim red to match the red roof, lots more to go, but taking my time, it's so hot and the biting flies. And there's a ladder involved.  The old metal chairs were found at the green dumpsters, a great find since they have Yellowstone stamped on them.  Nothing fancy, but it suits me.
And that other find, you were probably thinking, "what", painted in a white wash and now projects I need to finish are looking at me.  The Zipper purse, the jumper wool tote, the angel fabric, vintage, from Brannock and Patek, to be quilted for a little lap quilt, Lynda Hall's A Little Porch Time, only have two blocks made so far and the magazine.  There's a project in it I want to make.

A Little Porch Time

Decided to switch to the other side of the quilt and start with the house block, also decided to make all the applique blocks first so then when I'm ready to stitch behind the machine, can do it all at once, since I'm more of an applique person. Also want to blend all the wools I have for the applique and this is my method of sanity in how I work.

So all the wool on this block is thrift wool, except I added the smoke with one small strip of wool that I thought I would hook one day, who was I kidding.

I know, no wildlife.

Auntie Bean block finished

Finished the Auntie Bean block from A Little Porch Time last night, think I may start on the opposite side of the quilt to make it easier to add the applique, if you look at the quilt as a whole, it would be easier for me since I'm using wool for most of the applique.

Need to make a purse first, a black wool with lots of zippers.

Can't post without showing some wildlife and then a beautiful picture of the mountains outside of Gardner, looking towards Yellowstone Park.

A Little Porch Time & more snow and Mule deer

All it took today was having to shovel the truck out after getting it stuck to call the plow guy. What a winter so far.

Anyway, showing a closeup of the stitching on Auntie Bean, just a primitive X stitch to pull the wool edges together on the fabric background. Like how it looks, will take the basting stitch out later, if I remember.

And Mule deer, just love their big ears, we usually don't have them around the property. They are standing at the back door. They are very curious. And when they run, they jump, like they have springs in their legs, very weird and funny to watch.

A Little Porch Time & more snow of course

Started my first block from Lynda Hall's A Little Porch Time, don't like to sew behind the machine, and definitely don't like sewing triangles, so wool was the answer for this block. I made the backing block a little bigger until I hand sew all the wool triangles and then will size the block. Am using a cross stitch with wool thread to pull the triangles together. I think I will like this since i intend to use wool for most of the applique. It's a great prim quilt.

See those beautiful clear blue skies behind the snow covered trees, it means cold, cold temps.
