I'm starting to work on a Mourning Quilt for a friend who lost a member of her family. I was given several shirts of this young man to work with. It will be a two sided quilt, so far now I've made the cross to be appliqued. I machine quilted it on a base first so when I applique it there will more dimension and focus on the cross.
You should be able to see the backing on the cross that needs to be turned under. The background is a pumpkin and blue plaid and the cross is a dark blue plaid from the young man's shirt.
Some Mourning quilts that I have made previously.
I saw my surgeon last week and was cleared to start walking with a cane. Hard to believe it's been six weeks since the fall. Anyway, I continue to work on my rehab, work up to driving, it's the driving without narcotics and making sure I can slam on the brakes and sit with my knee bent for an extended period of time that will keep me from doing that for awhile. I've been practicing the driving in the lower meadow, the sheep just look at me as I make circles in the grass. Sitting and machine quilting is like driving, right foot on the pedal so I'm glad I can do that even if only for short periods of time.
Thanks for all the good wishes and concern.
Those fabrics look beautiful together, I know you will make her a beautiful treasure to comfort her. I love the one with the dove, and the feathers, great way to display it too. When Bill ruptured his quad, driving was the tough thing to do again and he still gets pain if we go for long trips,

I like the idea of you driving off road to strengthen your leg and to get a feel for when your ready for the road. Great to be rid of the walker too.
ReplyDeleteI love your fabric choices. What a wonderful remembrance to comfort them on their lost.

Nancy - thanks for stopping by the blog and for your kind comments. Your Mourning quilts are so touching my heart right now - especially the feather one. Some day we'll have to talk about why. Glad to hear that you're getting stronger and congratulations on the Primitive Quilts publications -- your work is just beautiful. My friend Debbie Wick was also featured in the Winter 2013 publication - such talented ladies. Take good care... Karen on Keuka
